-
- It's not a case of one or the other. LightWave (the software)
- is almost entirely accomplished by two guys. They have done the
- impossible again and again - the most recent miracle is porting
- LightWave to several platforms, something that larger companies
- have tried, failed at, and most often, done poorly.
-
- Flyer is produced at NewTek in Topeka, far from those two guys on
- LightWave. Sure, there are in-house and out-of-house people working
- on aspects of LightWave, like the CDROM, the manual, etc.
-
- >You'd think their profits would be higher on LightWave too since there's
- >usually more overhead involved in building hardware than there is with
- >software.
-
- Unless we're privvy to the details of the hardware margin
- on the Flyer, we can only guess. NewTek is the company that
- sold a dongle with $10 in parts as a $250 video digitizer.
- I'm sure they know how to profit on hardware. And don't
- forget that hardware can't be pirated nearly as easily as
- software.
